More than 280 startups signed up for Start it @KBC’s 20th pitch wave. 66 startups survived the rigorous selection process and will be prepared to scale up their businesses over the coming months. Start it @KBC continues to support startups from all sectors. In the coming year, however, the accelerator will invest even more in societal challenges such as sustainability, health, smart living and digitisation.

Startups typically create more jobs than SMEs

Wednesday, February 19, 2020 — Brussels. The average startup creates twice as many jobs as the average SME in our country. Nearly nine out of ten SMEs are sole traders, within startups that is only 1.4 percent. This is demonstrated by a survey of Start it @KBC, the largest accelerator in the country. Along with the number of jobs and rising sales, investments in startups are therefore also increasing, however the role of the government certainly remains crucial at an early stage to allow startups to grow.

Record number of startups pitch at Start it @KBC despite coronavirus crisis

Nearly 200 startups came to pitch their idea digitally, an absolute record for the country’s largest accelerator. In spite of the coronavirus that continues to paralyze companies on a massive scale. “The urge to do business remains very strong even today,” notes Lode Uytterschaut, founder and CEO of Start it @KBC.
